Pay: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Typically 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday; occasional evenings and weekends may be required as needed. Work is performed at NIAR Facilities and on-site at Customer facilities.

Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a "U.S. Citizen".

Job Information

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University is looking for an experienced CMM Programmer. This position is located at the Advanced Machining and Prototyping (AMP) lab in Park City, KS. Come join our fast-paced and fast-growing team!

Job Summary

Performs tasks related to metrology measurements and analysis, including research and data collection, to support production. Produces accurate and repeatable measurement of parts and tools. Responsible for the care and upkeep of metrology equipment.

Essential Functions

Performs tasks related to metrology measurements and analysis to support teams and production. Establishes technical requirements for metrology measurements, planning implementation of new metrology techniques and measurement methods, processes, software, and equipment. Produces accurate and repeatable measurements of production parts and tools. Prepares inspection plans and schedules inspection tasks. Maintains and tracks metrology equipment and/or automation. Writes and runs advanced programs for metrology equipment. Provides reports for inspected parts; assembles First Article Inspection (FAI) reports. Assist in the development and provides training courses to internal and external partners. Provides guidance, direction, and assistance to junior metrology engineers. Researches new technologies

Job Duties

Program and Operate CMM equipment.

Analyze measurements with metrology software: PolyWorks, Metrolog, and PC-DMIS.

Research new metrology equipment, techniques, measurement methods, processes, and software.

Participate in automated metrology projects.

Prepare inspection plans and schedules inspection tasks.

Produces accurate and repeatable measurements.

Provides inspection reports for inspected parts and tooling.

Assist with the development of CMM training courses.

Provide training courses for customers.

Provides guidance, direction, and assistance to junior dimensional metrologist.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent by date of hire

Five (5) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to learn additional functions of metrology, including portable, stationary, and automation.

Demonstrated advanced understanding of metrology concepts and practices.

Demonstrated knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Demonstrated advanced knowledge of metrology software.

Ability to work productively with a variety of customers to understand their needs and constraints.

Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.

Ability to pay close attention to detail, organize tasks, and to think critically.

Proficient in using hand gauges such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years CMM programing experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

High proficiency with two or more CMM providers.

High proficiency with two or more Metrology software programs.

Additional Information

This position will perform tasks related to CMM Programming and CMM Operation using advanced 5 axis probing, analyze those measurements in a variety of metrology software packages and provide detailed reports and analysis. Take part in research to expand the capabilities of CMM equipment including automation. Help develop and provide training for CMM programming and equipment operation.

Physical Requirements

Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
