About this role

POSITION SUMMARY: The Triage Supervisor is responsible for managing a staff of pharmacy technicians to serve as a liaison with the healthcare center staff. This position also assigns priorities to customer requests received by telephone, fax or email and investigates customer issues and complaints and provides resolution.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Supervise Triage Technicians by interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, making work assignments and evaluating job performance. 2. Provide courteous, cooperative and timely service to customers. 3. Establish work procedures in collaboration with Pharmacy Manager and assigns priority to coordinate activity of the Triage Department. 4. Perform routine staff duties of the Triage Department including, but not limited to, document triage, answering telephone inquiries, contacting backup pharmacies, clarification of prescription questions or concerns with the healthcare center, daily communication with the healthcare center Administrator and Director of Health Services. 5. Elevate pending concerns to the appropriate executive staff. 6. Monitor Quality Focus Centers to assure quality assurance and performance is upheld. 7. Assist and delegate activities if other pharmacy departments are in need of assistance. 8. Monitor for compliance with promise logs, triage logs and other triage documentation. 9. Assure all end of night documentation is complete. 10. Provide assistance to Pharmacy Manager regarding personnel actions and Triage operations. 11. Coordinate shift replacements for proper manpower coverage. 12. Recommend policies and procedures for Triage operations and updates policies and procedures as necessary under Pharmacy Management supervision and approval. 13. Collect data, conducts quality monitors and complete documentation as assigned (includes operational checklist). 14. Investigate errors and variances as needed for excellent customer service. 15. Orient and train new Triage partners. 16. Provide on-going training and education programs for Triage Technicians. 17. Enter orders accurately into patient medication profile in pharmacy computer application. 18. Attend managers' meetings and communicate information to department team. 19. Hold weekly team meeting with department members to provide encouragement and accountability.


ESSENTIAL ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:

- Participate in center/agency surveys (Licensure/JCAHO) and any subsequently required reports.

- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs to keep abreast of changes in your field as well as to maintain current license/certification as required.

- Attend and participate in mandatory in-services.

- Honor patients/residents' rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints.

- Comply with corporate compliance program.

- Report job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards including exposure to blood and body fluids and others as necessary.

- Follow established safety regulations, to include fire protection and prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc.

- Follow established safety procedures when performing tasks and/or working with equipment.

- Perform other related duties as necessary and as directed by supervisor.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCY:

- Ability to complete projects as assigned by Pharmacy Manager.

- Ability to enter orders accurately into patient medication profile in pharmacy computer application.

- Typing/keyboard knowledge.

- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.

- Medical Terminology.


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

- High School Diploma or GED.

- Certification as Pharmacy Technician.
