Here's What Your Day-to-Day Might Look Like
You will design and optimize software that runs on high-performance computing platforms, often working at the intersection of advanced algorithms and specialized hardware. Some days you will be tuning parallel code to squeeze out every ounce of performance. Other days you will collaborate with system engineers to map complex algorithms onto unique architectures across CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, and high-speed networks.You will analyze requirements, design solutions, develop new capabilities, debug existing software, and ensure everything operates efficiently at scale. You may lead technical discussions, mentor other engineers, and recommend architectural improvements that dramatically improve throughput and reliability. Your work will involve both deep technical problem solving and cross-team coordination to ensure mission systems perform exactly as intended.
Minimum Qualifications
Clearance: Active Top Secret Clearance with Full Scope Polygraph (required)
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. CitizenEducation and Experience:
Master’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field and at least 5 years of relevant experience supporting programs of similar scope and complexity
OR
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 7 years of relevant experience
OR
At least 9 years of relevant experience without a degree
Required Skills•
Strong experience developing software for Linux environments using command line tools•
Proficiency in C, C++, or Python for high-performance applications•
Experience with parallel programming models such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, or similar•
Deep understanding of multi-threading, concurrency, memory hierarchy, cache optimization, and NUMA architectures•
Experience designing scalable distributed or parallel algorithms•
Ability to optimize performance across CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and network layers•
Experience with Bash scripting and automation•
Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems•
Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearlyDesired Skills•
Experience with SQL databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL•
Familiarity with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark•
Experience with HPC schedulers such as Slurm•
Experience with container technologies including Docker, Podman, or containerd•
Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence•
Experience installing, configuring, and supporting software packages in Linux environmentsTechnology Stack
This role leverages a high-performance computing ecosystem built on Linux operating systems, parallel programming frameworks including MPI, OpenMP, and CUDA, and languages such as C, C++, and Python. Engineers work across distributed architectures utilizing CPUs, GPUs, advanced memory systems, and high-speed interconnects. Supporting tools include Git for version control, Bash for automation, container technologies such as Docker or Podman, and optional integration with SQL databases, big data frameworks like Spark, and HPC scheduling systems such as Slurm. Collaboration and tracking may involve Atlassian tools including Jira and Confluence.Compensation Range: $203,000.00 - $261,000.00 *The salary range provided reflects an estimate based on current market trends and may be adjusted based on factors such as the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. The final offer will be tailored after a thorough evaluation of the candidate’s background and suitability for the role.
