About this role

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Specialized experience may include the following: Serves as the primary point of contact with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for the investment review process. Provides technical expertise in the formulation of systems engineering policies and procedures. Provides assistance in translating performance requirements into design criteria and testing activities to ensure performance requirements are satisfied. Recommends revisions and alternative approaches to better achieve required cost, schedule and performance goals. Consults and advises management on operational and systems engineering planning issues. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties: - You will serve as a General Engineering and be responsible for coordinating the initiation, justification, and development of documentation for new project starts, and support Program/Project Managers (PMs) in their acquisition efforts, with an emphasis on acquisition system engineering. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Applying knowledge of engineering practices and principles in analyzing, developing, coordinating and applying Systems Engineering processes and controlling to all aspects of major systems acquisition. Assisting with the lesson plan and teaching aids in the areas of requirements, systems engineering, and Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD). Recommending revisions and alternative approaches to better achieve required cost, schedule and performance goals. Providing advice and guidance to major acquisition project personnel concerning design reviews, test readiness reviews, configuration audits and other engineering related programmatic review/audits.
