About this role
Empowered Staffing is partnered with a rapidly expanding national risk management & insurance services firm specializing in captive insurance and reinsurance solutions. Due to continued growth, the company is seeking a Staff Accountant with insurance accounting experience to support daily accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and process improvement initiatives.Key Responsibilities• Perform day-to-day accounting activities for insurance, reinsurance, and captive insurance entities, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Review financial accounts and transactions to identify and resolve discrepancies, reporting issues, and unusual activity.
• Analyze variances between actual and planned financial results and provide clear, detailed explanations to senior management.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
• Prepare and maintain accurate regulatory filings and supporting documentation in accordance with applicable state, federal, and industry requirements.
• Provide accounting guidance to senior management and designated representatives by explaining company policies, accounting procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the development, documentation, and implementation of accounting procedures and internal controls that comply with applicable regulatory and financial reporting standards.
• Assist with the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's general ledger and financial reporting systems.
• Collaborate with internal departments, business partners, auditors, insurance professionals, and state and federal regulatory agencies.
• Stay informed of changes in accounting standards, insurance regulations, and industry trends that may affect the organization or its clients.
• Research industry best practices and recommend improvements to accounting processes, procedures, controls, and reporting methods.
• Assist senior team members with the development and implementation of new accounting applications, reporting tools, analytical models, and system enhancements.
• Support special accounting, compliance, audit, and process-improvement projects as needed.Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of accounting experience within the insurance, reinsurance, or captive insurance industry.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience researching and resolving financial discrepancies and explaining account variances.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting and regulatory deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, business partners, auditors, and regulatory agencies.Preferred Qualifications• CPA, CMA, CFA, CIA, or another applicable accounting or insurance industry designation.
• Experience implementing, converting, or enhancing a general ledger or accounting system.
• Knowledge of statutory accounting principles, insurance reporting requirements, and regulatory filings.
• Experience working with captive insurance companies, reinsurance arrangements, or insurance program accounting.
• Experience supporting audits, regulatory examinations, or financial system implementations.
